Professor Freek Beekman


Freek Beekman is head of the section Radiation, Detection and Matter at Delft University of Technology and leads of the Laboratory of Physics of Molecular Imaging and Nuclear Medicine at the UMC Utrecht which includes the U-SPECT Molecular Imaging Facility. He (co-)authored 80 peer reviewed journal papers, several book chapters and more than 15 patent applications. He was presented with several international awards for his scientific contributions to Single Photon Emission Computer Tomography technology and its application in Neuroscience. Freek’s main research interests are radiation & imaging technology (SPECT, PET, transmission CT), image reconstruction, and biomedical applications of SPECT and PET. Freek Beekman is an Associate Editor of the International Journal on Biomedical Imaging and Medical Physics, and Editorial Board Member of Physics in Medicine and Biology. He is also the founder and part time CEO/CSO of MILABS (www.milabs.com) that markets pre-clinical SPECT systems with an unsurpassed spatial and temporal resolution.
