Hugo de Jong



Hugo de Jong completed his study (applied) physics in 1997 at the Eindhoven University of Technology with a thesis on quantitative measurement of atherosclerosis with MRI.  At the UMCU he defended his PhD-thesis on quantitative SPECT reconstruction under supervision of Freek Beekman and Max Viergever. Next was trained as medical physicist in the field of nuclear medicine and later appointed as staff member at the Amsterdam PET-Center (VUmc). In 2006 he started as the Medical Physics group leader for the department of Radiology and initiated a Medical Physics residency program. In addition he set up research lines in the field of CT and x-ray radiology, nuclear medicine physics and hybrid imaging. He was awarded with a personal VIDI grant and an ERC Consolidator Grant. In 2018 he was appointed professor in the field of Medical Physics Radiology and Nuclear Medicine.

Primary Interests: Physics of medical imaging, Teaching and Innovation.  Trainer of Medical Physics Residents.
